Dr Aline Smith MBBS, FRACGP,
Dip. Eating Disorders (shared care)

Aline graduated from University of New South Wales in 1986. She has strong interests in child health and womens health issues having worked in community paediatrics and having postgraduate qualifications with Family Planning Australia. Aline combines traditional family doctor values with her interests in natural medicine. Her other interests include helping people with a variety of mental health problems such as anxiety,depression and eating disorders,through her skills in cognitive behavioural therapy, counselling and hypnosis.

Aline also provides antenatal care to women wanting to birth in the public system at The Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, The Royal Womens Hospital at Randwick, The Canterbury Hospital including providing the option of shared antenatal care together with several private obstetricians.

Aline has developed a keen interest in Medical  Education,  supervising  GP  Registrars training at IWGP to become caring and professional family medicine doctors.  Aline teaches Medical Students at the practice through Clinical Placements from both University of Sydney and University of NSW on rotation.  Aline holds a position as  Lecturer at University of Technology, Sydney , teaching a one semester  Clinical Features course to  Third year Health Science students  majoring in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  In 2008, Aline commenced as Clinical Tutor to the inaugural First year Students at the University Of Notre Dame in Darlinghurst.

Within the practice, apart from  clinical work with patients, Aline organises the IWGP clinical staff education program , the Medical Student  Placement  program including being involved in research  projects in several  General Practice areas.  Teaching and research in General Practice is not only beneficial to doctors but it enhances the quality of care for patients – something which is central  to Aline’s  philosophy and practice of medicine.
